Well, lots of movies are opening this weekend. For instance, "Evan Almighty".
I plan to go see this film, one reason is that the trailer for the upcoming Veggietales movie, "The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything" is attached to it. Both films are released through Universal, so I figure they must think that they will attract a similar audience.
Can't you just hear the marketing meeting on that one: "Hey! Evan Almighty has God in it, and these veggies talk a lot about God. I've got a great idea!"
Actually, I think it's pretty cool that this little film I worked on is getting exposure with one of the hot releases of the summer. I hope it gives our movie a push.
So go see the trailer and tell me what you thought of it. You won't hurt my feelings.
I'd post some of my storyboards, but I signed a pretty scary contract. So just enjoy the trailer for now.

And to add some more credit where credit is due... I was joined with some other great storyboard artists as well. Namely Tod Carter, Eddie Pittman and the guys over at Funny Pages, Tom Bancroft & Rob Corley.

I was planning to see "Evan Almighty" on its opening weekend also.
P.S. Would you be allowed to post some story boards after Pirates hit theaters?
I should be able to post some images after the movie is released, or maybe even after the trailer has played for awhile. So stay tuned.
okay thanks
hehe, ok, well i hope i dont hurt your feelings when i say i'm never going to see that evan almighty movie. not that i wouldnt love to see that trailer, but i'm sure it'll pop up on the website soon enough without me wasting any money. ^^) as broke as i am, i'm only saving my money for ratatouille (again ^_^ ) and harry potter.
sorry, hope you dont mind.
Hey -- saw "Evan Almighty" tonight, which means I also saw the "Pirates" trailer. Please pass the word on to all the people that helped with the movie and the storyboards -- the trailer looks really good! You all do such great stuff!
But alas, now I have to wait to see the movie...
*sigh* Bummer...

Hey Tim, who's directing this one?
Hey Thom,
Mike Nawrocki is directing this one. I was offered the helm, but had too many creative differences with the script.
I didn't want to spend months in Canada on a film that I was going to lose most of my battles on.
Mike did a great job with it. His comedic sensibilities are much more in tune with the script than mine are.
I saw the trailer. Awsome.
The trailer is now up at:

So did you go see "Evan Almighty"? If you did, what did you think of it? Or have you decided against that, since the Pirates trailer is now on the 'net?

I saw "Evan". I had a few laughs. I wasn't morally offended. Didn't see where they spent all their money.1
Animals, maybe? Or maybe the ark? I know where they filmed that part, and it's not like the area would have cost them a lot of money. So you have a point, I suppose. Just how much did they spend? I'm not up on those sorts of things.

Tim,
Thanks for the link to the trailer posted on the official Pirates site.
It looks good. Nice little joke about "from the makers of the most successful vegetable movie of all time" at the start of the trailer. I will definitely go see it when it comes out .
I didn't see Evan Almighty last weekend ,
but I know what I'm seeing this weekend !
So I saw the trailer. On the website of course, but I dont think you want to hear my opinion, and I'm kind of afraid to give it anyways cause I dont want you to hate me.
So I'll just leave it at that. The still on website look awesome, though.

Oh, I can take it.
Oh, come on, Sushi, give your opinion! I think we all can take it!
Heh, so I even get front by "anonymous," huh? And that nickname is sticking, isnt it Tim? So now I got another one other than pollie_lobster. Ok...Ive been thinking bout it all day on how to respond to this without it becoming a composition.
Usually, or...well...you know maybe I'll just post a response on my blog. I know this is going to get long. I'd send you an email, but it keeps getting sent back to me, and anonymous here wants to know too. ^^) Check my blog, promise it'll be written after I close this window.
And to anonymous...who are you?
Just to let you know...I'm taking my review of the new trailer off my blog by 5 tonight. I'm going out for a bit of job hunting, and so thats why I'm waiting that long.
But the post has generated alot of...hate email, which I sort of knew was coming anyways. Its like if you don't give immaculate positive reviews about veggietales, you're attacked for you opinion if its bad. Kinda why I haven't posted about other veggie stuff up there. gets alot of good, but also unwanted traffic.
VeggieTales fans aren't compassionate people, or at least some of the ones who have encountered me.
I saw your post (didn't read any of the comments). I was not offended. Your opinion is your opinion. Lots of people don't like my work (which I must add, I didn't edit the trailer nor have anything to do with it).
I would only be offended if you blamed other people's shortcomings on me, or blamed my shortcomings on other people.
I thought Mike directed this, did you too?
I think your artwork is slamming, whatchu talking about? My work is like a piece of crap compared to your stuff. What I wouldn't give to work under you. So you've got me a bit confused.
And what shortcomings, your in the top ten artists I look up to. Did, I do that? If I did, I'm sorry, wasn't my intention at all.
And I was under the impression that blaming never solved anything, its not very polite in the first place anyways.
There were no comments by the way on my post, but the post did generate a flood of emails, and a little bashing on Phil's blog...ick.
Does your yahoo email not work anymore, cause I try to send stuff, but it gets sent back to me.
Lydia,
I think you misunderstood me. I was not offended. There were things about the trailer that didn't excite you. That's okay. I was actually supporting your right to opinion and to dissent from the masses.
There was a big IF in my sentence that I believe you overlooked. As in IF someone said something like, "Tim should be ashamed at the lighting is such and such shot." I would be mildly miffed because I had nothing to do with that.
Or IF someone said, "Mike's opening scene storyboards suck!" I would be hurt that my poor drawings were blamed on my friend.
Yes, it's too bad that you are receiving angry emails over your valid opinions. Those people are shortsighted.
Also, Mike directed PWDDA. I was Lead Storyboard Artist. As far as emails are concerned, you're probably getting stuck in my spam filter. Sorry.
OOOOOOOooooooooops! I was in a hurry, and I didn't sign my "anonymous" comment. My apologies, to both you, Tim, and to Sushi.
So, Sushi, you placed your opinion on your own blog site? Sounds reasonable. I guess I'll wander over and do some reading...
Once again, didn't mean to be rude by not signing.
